AFCS Social Care – Community Consortium
The Phoenix Way Fund (Global Fund For Children) 2024-2025
As part of our commitment to the community A Father’s Child Services CIC (AFCS CIC) supports trainee counsellors and social workers and other professionals during their placement. 2025 saw our first sign off of a year two social worker in practice.
Our funding from The Phoenix Way: Global fund for children project in 2024, focused on ‘Reducing parental conflict, NSPCC Graded Care 2 profile support, and Black Advocacy‘. Hear more about our project from our Director Michelle Kelly.
This funding has helped us to employ a young person who volunteered with us in 2021 on the Global Fund for children: Masculinities small grants project. Now 18 years old he has been supported to gain youth work skills and part of our team delivering our Outcomes Star mentoring programme, as well as our Birmingham City University Psychology Masters Student who volunteered with us last year while completing her BSc.
We also started to fully develop our trademarked bespoke CPD Accredited Desistence & Alternative engagement Programme (D&ANCE® Therapy) and attended training events with The Phoenix Fund to help build our teams leadership skills and profieciency. Find out more about what we have been up to here! and here!

We have supported a number of counsellors since inception and our Director Ava Clarke came to us to volunteer during the pandemic and is now one of our Directors. We believe in embedding our knowledge within the community for the community and understand the importance of culturally competent practitioners.
To date we have supported 5 Counsellors and 1 social worker on their journey to graduation, by supporting with a counselling placement or clinically supervising them. Working collaboratively with Birmingham City University (BCU) and Halesowen College. With one of our directors also graduating this year as a young persons social worker, we have a broad team of professionals that can make a huge impact within our community.

The National Lottery Community Fund (Awards For All) 2024
Our funding from The National Lottery Cost of Living Emergency Food Fund in 2023 and Awards For All projects, allowed us to deliver a culturally sensitive food bank, and reduce waste by offering products that the community needed.
Locally to our service there were stories of foodbank produce being dumped near by, so we took the stand that it made no sense to give people food they would not eat or didn’t like, but to supply the food they need.
By dedicating extra time, staff resourced by the Lottery funding ,we planned a consultation and asked people what their needs were. But also how we might sustain the project without funded contribution in the future, adn helping the community to become more sustainable. You can see the results here! and check out our promo below.
